People who follow the tabloids are pretty used to stories about famous people getting arrested for driving under the influence. (Oh, look! Here's !) But it's relatively rare to hear about celebrities having their DUI charges dismissed.
That's to actress Amanda Bynes this week in Ventura County, California., Bynes was observed running a red light and stopping in the middle of an intersection in Sherman Oaks around 3:30 in the morning. Police reports said that the 28-year old Bynes appeared to be impaired and failed some field sobriety tests, so she was arrested on driving under the influence of drugs.
It probably didn't help Bynes' case that she was already on probation for a 2012 DUI conviction. But once her blood test results came back, authorities discovered that the only substance that was present in her bloodstream was Adderall - and a fairly small amount at that.
Since Bynes had a prescription for the Adderall, the prosecutor reportedly didn't feel he had enough evidence to convict the actress of DUI. As a result, those charges were dropped recently. However, it's possible that the case could be referred to the district attorney, who may want to prosecute Bynes for a probation violation since she was prohibited from taking Adderall at all.
This case provides yet another example of police presuming driving impairment based on appearances and an inability to perform field sobriety tests - but having DUI charges dropped after actual blood test results come back with unexpected information.
