The year 2012 is winding to a close, and since the world didn't end as prophesied by the Mayans, people in Seattle and across the country will be celebrating the arrival of the upcoming new year. That means there will be lots of parties, gatherings, and merriment - and of course, more law enforcement agents on the roadways looking for impaired drivers.
Additional DUI patrols will be set up across King County over the next few days. On Sunday, there will be additional Seattle police officers near CenturyLink Field for the Seahawks' final game of the regular season against the St. Louis Rams. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:25pm, so watch for these extra patrols as you leave the stadium. Friday through Sunday, there will be "end-of-year" DUI enforcement efforts throughout King County. So be aware of these patrols as you drive around the county this weekend. Then from Monday night into Tuesday morning, numerous police agencies will be looking for drivers who are impaired by drugs or alcohol. So be sure to plan for a safe ride home from your New Year's Eve parties.
Again, if you will be consuming alcohol during this time period, have a designated driver, take public transportation, or consider hailing a cab. In addition, because this is the first New Year' Eve with legalized marijuana, you can expect police to be extra vigilant about detecting and testing for evidence of pot usage by Washington drivers.
Have a happy and safe New Year!
