The Washington State Patrol has announced what it calls its "Pre-Halloween" emphasis patrol in King County. The WSP will focus on the so-called "King County Metro Zone," which consists of Interstate 5 between Ravenna and Interurban - or basically from Seattle to Tukwila. The emphasis patrol is scheduled from now until early in the morning of October 26, with additional law enforcement officers being deployed between noon and 4am each day in vehicles that are both marked and unmarked.
The effort is targeting Halloween parties which tend to take place in conjunction with Thursday's holiday. So patrolmen will be looking for instances of people driving under the influence throughout the King County Metro Zone. The 2012 pre-Halloween effort resulted in an 81% jump in the number of DUI arrests in the area and a 60% spike in DUI-related traffic stops. So if you do plan to celebrate Halloween a bit early, make sure to be aware of the added police presence on the I-5 corridor.
Also, expect additional police from various agencies to be present around bars or clubs which may be hosting Halloween-themed events. And as always, if you are pulled over and arrested for DUI, be sure to contact an experienced DUI defense attorney to assist you.
